TOEFL workshop #2- changes in the 21th century

 We are living in 21th century. We are having changes. 21th century became a century of development as the technologies had surprisingly developed. Apple made new iphones, Samsung made new Galaxy series, and Microsoft made new version of Windows system. These skills and products made us to live better, more comfortable life. However, they also brought pollution and sickness to us. Like a frog in the boiling water, we are slowly experiencing the hot temperature coming toward us. The danger is slowly coming; we are running out of the fossil fuel, and this scarcity of resources has brought the conflict between the countries.

 The amount of oil left for us could be only used about for 42 years. The natural gas is about 50 years left. This lack of the natural resources made countries urge to get more resources as they can. This desire, or maybe kind of uneasiness they feel, makes conflicts between the countries. These conflicts could appear as a kind of a war, or as an unstable relationship between the countries. As time goes by, the amount of the fossil fuels will more decrease, the countries will be more eager to get them, and finally, the more conflicts will be engendered.

 Of course not all of the countries will have war with each other, but it is possible for the wars to outbreak. Like the Artic Ocean dispute or the war between Iraq and Afghanistan, these wars can happen again. The scarcity of the fossil fuels could be a reason for the war, but the new natural resources appearing these days could also be a reason for it too. For example, Methane Hydrate is looming up as the new natural resource which could alternate the fossil fuels. Because methane hydrate discharge less carbon hydrate than the oil, it is better for the nature too. However, the reasons why this good resource could cause the war, is because only five places are found to have the methane hydrate. Then, like the disputes that we had for the oil, other disputes will happen to get new resource.

 Therefore, because of our egoism and stupid actions, the world gave us the change, which might threat ourselves, just like we had threatened the nature. Earth is just giving us back the things that we had gave to them. It doesn’t mean that we should not use all the fossil fuels or scientific technologies, but at least we should know about the problems we have, and try to change our actions. We should change before the changes will come.
